Drink up, dreamers

In the foreword to Poppy Z. Brite's Antediluvian Tales (her latest book of short stories concerning New Orleans), she mentions the website: Songfacts which will allow you to search by title or artist or browse their catalogue if you like to learn more about why and how a particular song was written and what sort of a life it may have taken on post-production.

The site also inclues random songfacts, trivia quizzes, staff picks, message boards, song fallacies, the top 10 searches for any given day, artist interviews and much more. While some of the more obscure bands and artists I listen to are not (yet) included, in just browsing through the A's, here are some of my favourite songs:
The Smiths' How soon is now?
Simon & Garfunkel's America
George Harrison's Apple scruffs
Jethro Tull's Aqualung

Luftgitar!

Who knew? Every year in September (so you can start practising now!) the Air Guitar World Championships are held in Oulu, Finland. It's become a 3 day event where the best air guitarists battle it out until a winner is chosen. I have at least one nephew or two who I know would get a kick out of attending and/or participating. If you can't stay away, check out the rules. Accomodations seem reasonable. Can't speak for the airfare.

Day and night world map

If you for any reason need to know which parts of the earth are in daytime and which are in nighttime, check out this map: Daytime/Nighttime World Map

I've entered in the Western NY city closest to me, although not that close, as of 9 a.m. And the above is what it looks like.
