It has direct train lines to both of the nearest large cities: Edinburgh in Scotland and Newcastle in England, putting Berwick-upon-Tweed in the middle of everything. You can visit Northumberland national park nearby, and specifically Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke of Northumberland, which some Harry Potter fans will recognize as Hogwarts. Located right on the border with Scotland, you will never, ever see the sun. Really.
